2008-2010 Project: Lot 6 Lau Eki Street, The Four Seasons, The Big Island Hawaii, Cher's Hawaii Hale

John Reynolds of CAD Hawaii, was hired by Cher in July of 2007 to be her "eye's in Hawaii" and to act as Owner's Representative for the Lot 6 project. The house was designed by William Long of William S. Long & Associates (WSLA) Pasedena, California. Mr. Long was involved with another large project in California, so John selected the final finishes: stone, granite, wood detail and plumbing fixtures. John also helped negotiate the contract between Cher and the contractor, David Thielan of Pacific Tradewinds LLC. John's job was to oversee construction and track quality control, send updates to the owner and keep the project on budget. The lot went from a barren 3/4 acres of lava bed to a fabulous resort retreat.

Follow the construction through these photos:

We start by forming the pool and foundations. Planting 4 large Coconut Palms behind the pool.  This is a long narrow lot, we had to work our way out to the street. Once the house starts getting framed there will be no way to get big equipment to the back of the lot.

The foundation is poured and pool has been sprayed with gunnite, it's time to start framing. Steel posts and girders are used to add shear to the main structure.

The bungalows are taking shape. Stacks of clear cedar lumber arrive for interior ceiling trim. Also shake cedar roofing on site.
